July 24

Troops stationed at an army post near San Francisco reported that afternoon being pelted with spatters of blood and pieces of meat, that were apparently beef. The blood and meat fell from a cloudless sky and ranged in size from “a pigeon’s egg to that of an orange”. Several pieces of meat were given to the post surgeon and he described some of the slices as being "slightly spoiled", as if they had been left out in the sun too long.
