Map showing Greenland by Nicolo Zeno (1558, supposedly after 1380).

WEIRD SCIENCE:
The "Zeno Map" was reportedly originally drawn. It covered a vast area of the north as far as Greenland with amazing accuracy. The map was first published in 1558 by Nicolo Zeno, a descendant of his namesake who supposedly voyaged the North Atlantic in 1380, and is generally regarded as being wholly of 16th century origin. Most historians regard the map and accompanying narrative as a hoax, perpetrated by the younger Zeno to make a retroactive claim for Venice as having discovered the New World before Christopher Columbus.
